MONTREAL—A robbery at a Laval pub ended with a high-speed pursuit through the streets of Montreal’s east end on Sunday morning and five people in custody.
According to witnesses, four people entered the de Callieres bar in the Duvernay sector of Laval with guns drawn shortly after 2:00 a.m. Wearing masks, the three men and one woman in their 20s assaulted the bartender and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
A nearby Laval police squad car was alerted to the robbery and arrived just as the group entered an older Honda Civic, piloted by a fifth person. The grey car refused to pull over and crossed over to Montreal on either the Pie-IX or Papineau-Leblanc Bridge.
The Montreal police were notified of the pursuit and assisted with the chase and arrests.
The 15-kilometre chase ended at the corner of Ste-Catherine St. and Prefortaine St. when the car was pinned against a home. Two people were arrested on the spot and three others attempted to flee on foot.
A K-9 unit from Laval was brought to assist with the search and the other three suspects on the lam were quickly arrested in a grassy field running parallel to Notre-Dame St.
All five suspects remain in the custody of the Laval police on Sunday and will appear in a Laval courthouse on Monday to face charges of armed robbery and a number of other criminal offences.
The bartender was treated with minor cuts to the face, but did not need to be transported to a hospital.
