It was an emotional night at the annual Quebec Sports Hall of Fame Gala.

On Wednesday, former Habs coach and Senator Jacques Demers made his first public appearance since suffering a stroke in April. He arrived at the ceremony in a wheelchair, smiling and visibly content.

Demers was inducted for his coaching career, and received accolades from his sports colleagues.

He has lost much of his ability to speak, as the stroke left him paralyzed on the right side. He was able to articulate some words, though his brother Michel spoke on his behalf.

Overall, seven sports personalities we inducted into the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame, including hockey players Dave Keon and Kim Saint-Pierre, diver Emilie Heymans, Paralympic athlete André Beaudoin, former football player Jean-Philippe Darche, and businessman Maurice Tanguay.
