Transport Minister Robert Poeti said he wants to get rid of the Metropolitan Transit Agency, or AMT, and replace it with a new integrated governance structure.

After meeting with Montreal-area mayors this week, Poeti is planning for two new bodies: the network of metropolitain transport and the regional transportation agency. The responsibilities for these new bodies have not yet been determined.

The announcement could be made as early as Monday, but the move will not affect train and bus service.

The amt was created in 1995 and is tasked with planning, operating and promoting public transportation in the metropolitan region of Montreal.
