Montreal's Transit Agency has cancelled an order to buy new railcars from Bombardier

The $100-million for 24 double decker cars was quietly cancelled within the past month.

Bombardier will not be able to deliver the cars to the AMT on time.

The new railcars were intended to be used on the Candiac, St. Jerome and Vaudreuil-Dorion lines.

Bombardier was the only bidder on the project, but after winning the contract said it would only be able to deliver the first car in 30 months.

The AMT wanted to have the trains in operation within two years.

Bombardier's much-troubled rail division was recently subject to a bailout from the Caisse de Depot, which purchased 30 percent of the train business in exchange for US$ 1.5 billion.

Bombardier is also far behind schedule in delivering streetcars and new railcars to the Toronto Transit Commission and Metrolinx.
