Advance polling for the federal election begins Friday throughout Canada.

Voters can head to advance polling stations from noon until 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday in every riding in the country.

The electoral cards mailed to all voters by Elections Canada include instructions on where to vote, or people can check online at elections.ca.

Many people have already voted by mail, and can continue to do so if they contact Elections Canada as soon as possible to ensure their ballot is received before Oct. 19, 2015.

It's also possible to vote in person at an Elections Canada office until 6 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 13.

To vote in a federal election voters must provide two pieces of identification that contain their photograph and address. If they don't have this Elections Canada has a lengthy list of secondary pieces of ID it considers valid.

If people don't have those, they will need to bring someone willing to swear an oath as to their identity and address.

Special polling stations have been set up Friday in provincial and federal prisons in order for inmates to vote. This is the fifth federal election since prisoners won the right to vote in their home ridings.
