Businessman Tony Accurso has lost the final round in his legal battle to avoid testifying before the Commission Charbonneau after Superior Court Judge Jean-François Buffoni shot down his request to quash his subpoena Thursday.

Accurso has maintained that testifying could lead him to incriminate himself and render impossible a fair trial on other criminal charges he faces.

On April 10 the Supreme Court refused to hear Accurso’s case, leading the Superior Court initiative as his last hope to avoid answering questions at the corruption inquiry.

The former head of Simard-Beaudry and Louisbourg Construction is still awaiting trial on charges of fraud and corruption.

Accurso, along with former longtime Laval Mayor Gilles Vaillancourt, is also part of a group of 37 defendants arrested by UPAC in spring 2013 as part of a major police operation.
