Although 17-year-old Francoise Abanda was dispatched in the first round of the U.S. Open, the Montreal tennis phenom has no reason to hang her head in her first-ever Grand Slam after the 3-6, 5-7 loss to hard-serving Sabine Lisicki.

The 205 world-ranked Abanda went toe-to-toe with the 27 world-ranked Lisicki, who registered the hardest-ever serve ever recorded by a woman earlier this season.

Abanda managed to stay on serve in the second set but was betrayed by an unreliable serve with a tiebreaker just points away, double faulting while down at 5-6, to hand the victory to Lisicki.

Both women went for broke on their serves, as with Lisicki hitting 10 double faults, while Abanda hit nine.

Abanda impressed in the qualifiers last week, easily beating Andreea Mitu, Nao Hibno and Misa Eguchi to gain a spot in the main draw.

She also had some quality time with the legendary Serena Williams, who reportedly complimented her on the improvements she has made to her game.

It was not a great day for Canadians at Flushing Meadows Monday as four of the five who took the court (Abanda, Aleksandra Wozniak, Vasek Pospisil and Sharon Fichman) were sent home, with only Milos Raonic advancing.
