A 21-year-old man is dead and a young woman is facing charges after an alleged hit-and-run in Laval Thursday.

A jogger found the man on the ground unconscious Thursday morning on Duchesneau St. in the St. Francois district.

Laval police spokesperson Franco Di Genova said police received two calls about the incident around 7:30 a.m. describing an unconscious man lying in the street, bleeding "profusely" from the side of his head.

The jogger said in the call that at first, she thought it was a garbage can in the road until she realized it was a person, Di Genova said. She then knocked on a door in the area and asked the residents to call 911.

First responders determined the man's head injury was severe and he was immediately transported to a nearby hospital.

The man died in hospital around 1:30 p.m.

A young woman was arrested in the case Thursday afternoon. Her car was seized and she is being interrogated. She is expected to appear in court Friday afternoon to face charges of dangerous driving causing death.

It's unclear whether the man and woman knew each other.
